[Filled] Open Position: Educational Events Coordinator
Position Summary
Climate Change AI (CCAI) is seeking a paid part-time Educational Events Coordinator to lead and project manage the second edition of our flagship educational event, the CCAI Summer School, alongside a dedicated team of volunteers. The CCAI Summer School brings together emerging leaders with backgrounds in artificial intelligence (AI) and/or areas of relevance to climate change for specialized coursework and interdisciplinary collaboration. The 2022 edition of the Summer School was held fully virtually with 70 participants from 33 countries; we anticipate running the 2023 edition in a hybrid format, with all lectures held virtually and featuring a pilot of an in-person project-based component for a subset of participants. Applicants to this position should have a proven ability to project manage and co-develop educational events, and be amenable to working in a startup-style environment. Geographic location is flexible within the United States, and day-to-day communication will be virtual, as the CCAI team is distributed worldwide. Start date: January 2023 (negotiable)
Commitment: Part-time (20 hours/week)
Location: Remote within the United States
Eligibility: The applicant must be legally entitled to work in the United States, and must be able to travel to Canada for 1-2 weeks (expenses paid) for the in-person component of the Summer School.
Compensation: $30-40/hour (USD)
Duration: 1-year contract with possibility of renewal
Deadline for application: Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis.
Roles and responsibilities
- Project management and logistics for an online course and week-long in-person workshop:
- Project management of volunteer co-organizing team (5-10 people)
- Coordination and project management of content creators, instructors, and mentors (30-50 people)
- Administration of online course
- Organization of in-person event space and logistics, including on-the-ground support during and leading up to the in-person component
- Oversight of educational content creation, including pedagogical guidance
- Fundraising and liaising with external Summer School partners
- Coordinating with the Executive Director to ensure alignment of the Summer School with CCAI’s mission, goals, and core values
Qualifications
Required skills:
- Demonstrated ability to plan and project manage multi-month projects with diverse stakeholders
- Demonstrated event planning experience appropriate to organize a weeklong, in-person, ~40-person program
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently without close supervision
- Full professional proficiency in spoken and written English
Preferred skills:
- Understanding of best practices in online course development
- Demonstrated interest in climate change or related topics
- Demonstrated interest in machine learning, data science, or related topics
- Experience coordinating or managing volunteers
- Experience in educational event planning
- Experience in supporting or managing online events
- Fundraising experience
- Knowledge of languages in addition to English
Experience and requirements:
- A minimum of 2 years of working experience (or equivalent time spent towards an advanced/professional degree) is required.
