About
Climate Change AI (CCAI) empowers a global community of innovators, practitioners, and decision-makers to accelerate responsible climate action through the use of AI, by addressing critical gaps in expertise, education, coordination, and research-to-deployment infrastructure. CCAI is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and is run by a small team of staff alongside a dedicated team of 50 volunteers hailing from five continents and bringing significant breadth and depth of expertise on both AI and climate change.
AI Innovation Grand Challenge Award Ceremony

Bridging the digital divide: Ensuring inclusive frontier technology for climate action
Monday, November 18, 2024, 09:00-10:00 (GMT+4, AZT Time) - Capacity-Building Hub, Special Event Room - Shirvan, Blue Zone, COP29 + Livestream (for registered participants)
Frontier technology tools can make humanity more resilient to climate-related hazards; providing long-term social and economic benefits. For example, AI can be used to forecast and monitor extreme weather events, it can provide automatic translation of warning messages, and it can assist in decision making. However, differences in infrastructure (e.g., observational networks and connectivity), education and training opportunities, and governance, can delay the adoption of these tools and further deepen economic divides. This session will look at: how digital tools can be deployed, it will look at education and training efforts being coordinated in key regions (and the benefits of different approaches and formats), and it will highlight the importance of interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and international collaboration in the development of standards. Finally, it will reveal gaps where more capacity building activities could be beneficial and highlight the positive impacts that this can have on a key fundamental human right: an adequate standard of living.
